Ty Dixon '23 Wins $1,000 HBCU Scholarship

When someone’s jersey is in the rafters at the Smith Center, his place in history is secure with University of North Carolina basketball.

George Lynch was the Most Valuable Player of the Tar Heels’ 1993 NCAA Championship team and has leant his name to a showcase this weekend in Charlotte which includes Christ School.

Ty Dixon ’23 and Varsity Basketball assistant coach Michael Karp attended a banquet Thursday for the George Lynch Invitational presented by Phenom Hoops. Ty’s appearance was requested as the senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., is one of five winners of a $1,000 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Heroes Scholarship.

Ty submitted an essay to be chosen for the scholarship, which is tied in with the Lynch Invitational. He is one of four seniors for Christ School's team, along with Anthony Robinson '23, Emanuel Richards '23, and Matthew Pethel '23. The Greenies (3-0) are undefeated through their first three games. 

Christ School’s game in the Lynch showcase is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Charlotte Latin. The site for the game is Charlotte Country Day.
