One month and seven days.
The No. 1 ranked team in NCISAA basketball was beyond overdue for a home game and all the comforts that come with it. Christ School showed in flashes why it is 6-0 in Mebane Field House this season, wearing down Wando (S.C.), 76-44.
The Greenies (17-4) outscored the Warriors (12-9) in every quarter Friday, getting the bulk of their points from Keenan Wilkins ’24 (15 points), George Mason recruit Bryson Cokley ’24 (12), Jozohn Price ’24 (11), and USC Upstate recruit Jamari Briggs ’24 (10).
Not far behind were Cole Boyer ’24 (seven points), Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24 (six), Bruce White ’24 (five), Mikey Wilkins ’25 (five), Mason Collins ’28 (three), and Madden Collins ’25 (two).
Keenan continued his recent hot streak from the perimeter with four more 3-pointers and Patrick Mahomes would have been proud of the assist he flipped from halfcourt in the second quarter. After one bounce, Bryson gathered the ball for the game’s first dunk.
Christ School built on a 35-21 halftime lead by largely playing reserves in the third and fourth quarters.
Wando is from Mount Pleasant, S.C., and has an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students. The Warriors have been coached since 2022 by Christ School alumnus Calvin Craft '93, who was presented with a jersey from Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins prior to Friday’s game.
The Greenies are back on the road Saturday for an important NCISAA 4-A game at Covenant Day (13-6). The JV game tips at 12:30 p.m., followed by the varsity.
